Do you think when you eat?

Eating mindfully can mean lots of different things, and can carry with it many benefits. Being more present and mindful when you eat can;

  • Improve digestion and nutrient absorption by ensuring you chew your food properly and eat at a slower pace.
  • Increase satisfaction, as you take time and are more present you will get more enjoyment out of what you are eating.
  • Reduce emotional eating, helping you understand emotional cravings.

Our top tips for mindful eating include;

  1. Eat Without Distractions: Turn off the TV, put away your phone, and sit down at a table to eat. Avoid reading, working, or watching TV while eating.
  2. Eat Slowly: Chew your food thoroughly and eat slowly. Put your fork down between bites. Eating slowly not only helps you enjoy your food more, but it also gives your body time to recognise when you’re full, preventing overeating.
  3. Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to your body’s hunger and fullness cues. Eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re satisfied. Avoid eating out of boredom, stress, or other emotional triggers.
  4. Engage Your Senses: Take a moment to appreciate the colours, smells, and textures of your food. Engaging your senses enhances your eating experience.
  5. Be Grateful: Take a moment to express gratitude. Consider the effort that went into producing and preparing it.
