Plant based milks – What to look for

Its National Plant Based Milk Day….but ! BE AWARE ! – Whilst plant based milks can be a great addition to a whole food diet (and you don’t have to be vegan to enjoy them!) you do have to know what you are looking for! 

Many of these products are branded as ‘health foods’ but on closer inspection they are full of refined sugars, highly inflammatory industrial seed oils and additives. All of these ingredients contribute to inflammation in the body which can cause gut issues, mean you have difficulty losing or maintaining weight, and even contribute to hormone imbalances. So overall, regular consumption can leave you feeling less than ‘healthy’!

There are however products out there which don’t include these nasties, just take a moment to read the ingredients list – for example an almond milk shouldn’t have anything other than almonds, water and a little salt in it! It’s even better if you can get an organic option too. 

This week in the studio we used a great organic almond milk, blended up with some ice and one of the London Nootropics adaptogenic coffees that we sell in the studio, to make a yummy and functional iced latte! We went for the ‘MOJO’ one as it includes Cordyceps mushroom and Siberian Ginseng so it’s great for energy, stamina and immunity! The taste was delicious but you could easily throw in a couple of dates to sweeten it naturally!

The other coffees we stock are ‘FLOW’ which includes Lions Mane mushroom and Rhodiola, great for brain function and focus; and ‘ZEN’ which includes CBD and Ashwagandha, so perfect for reducing stress and feeling calm.
