Simple Guide to Healthy Holiday Eating this Christmas Season

This time of year is about being social, celebrating, and, often, indulgence. While it’s great to enjoy yourself, it’s also good to maintain a balance.

Here are our tips to stay healthy without missing out on the fun!

1. Food Choices:

Make good food choices – go for selections of whole, nutrient-dense foods that will nourish your body. Load up on colourful fruits and vegetables and lean proteins such as turkey or fish. These foods provide essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to keep your body functioning at its best.

2. Mindful Eating:

Savour each bite and acknowledge fullness cues. Eating slowly allows you to appreciate food, making the dining experience more satisfying. Being present during meals, you’re less likely to overeat and more likely to enjoy it!

3. Hydration:

Maintaining hydration by drinking plenty of water throughout the day, with natural salts or electrolytes, especially if you are consuming alcohol. Water also not only helps control appetite but also supports digestion and helps flush out toxins from your system.

4. Limit Ultra-Processed Foods:

Ultra-processed foods, often full of unhealthy fats, sugars, and additives, can be tempting during the the party season. It’s a great excuse to create your own festive treats using natural sweeteners, whole grains, and real ingredients for a healthier and more satisfying indulgence.

5. Alcohol Choices:

You can go for lighter options like clean spirits mixed with soda water instead of sugary cocktails. Alternate alcoholic beverages with water to stay hydrated. Enjoy and savour your drink.

6. Snacks:

Snacking is inevitable during the holidays, but it doesn’t have to be unhealthy. Snacks like nuts, seeds, Greek yogurt, or vegetable sticks with hummus are a great idea, and they supplying essential nutrients your body needs. Having these snacks readily available can help you make better choices when hunger strikes between meals.

7. Stay Active:

Movement not only supports your overall health but also helps balance out the extra calories consumed during the festivities and aids digestion and blood sugar regulation. Encourage family and friends to join in staying active, making it a fun and shared experience.
